Costa Rica is a beautiful country in Central America, located between Nicaragua and Panama. It is geologically and climatically diverse. Tropical rain forest in the higher elevations bring about brief daily rain showers. The Pacific coastal region is more desert like being much hotter and dryer.
The population, also quite diverse, is made up of native Costa Ricans, ex-pats from Canada, U.S. and Europe, and also a small percentage of remaining indigenous people. All Costa Ricans are known to be very friendly, and this holds true based on my experiences.
As far as travel goes, this is a very safe county. It has a low rate of violent crimes, low drug use, a stable government, and a relatively good relationship with other countries in the region. As with most countries, petty crimes and opportunist theft are a concern. But exercising caution on protecting yourself and valuations goes a long way.
Truthfully speaking, this might be the most beautiful place I had ever been and is very high on my “need to return to” list.
